Naltrexone & The Sinclair Method

A revolutionary treatment for problem drinking that uses targeted naltrexone therapy, and is clinically-proven to have a 78% success rate

START NOW

The Sinclair Method (TSM) is a science-based protocol for treating alcohol use disorder. It uses the medication naltrexone in a targeted dose. Over time, most people using this protocol will experience fewer alcohol cravings and less interest in drinking.

The Sinclair Method Explained

Here is a preview into one of our course videos where we explain the basics behind this method.

  • TSM is a long-term treatment protocol and usually takes about 6-9 months
  • This method helps eliminate strong alcohol cravings or urges to drink
  • This method makes "moderate" drinking possible for most people
  • Research shows that people have greater success when the medication is combined with a program that supports behavior and lifestyle change, like what's available in The Alcohol Freedom Program

More About Naltrexone

  • Naltrexone has been approved by the FDA for treatment of alcohol use disorder since 1994.
  • Naltrexone is a safe, non-addictive and non-habit-forming medication that has very few interactions or side effects for most people.
  • Naltrexone works by blocking the endorphin reward people get from alcohol. It does not make a person sick from alcohol like Antabuse.
  • Naltrexone is only taken before the first alcoholic drink of the day.
  • A prescription is required in most parts of the world for naltrexone.
  • When you enroll in The Alcohol Freedom Program, we'll connect you with a telemedicine physician who can prescribe the medication. 👍

How The Sinclair Method Works

The method works by dealing with alcohol use disorder on a neurological level. 🧠 We’ll break this down into a few simple steps:

Step 1

When you drink alcohol – it produces a flood of feel-good hormones in your brain, including endorphins. This is why drinking can feel so pleasurable & rewarding.

Step 2

This flood of feel-good hormones are what drive you to keep craving, drinking & over-drinking alcohol, & ultimately developing patterns of alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Step 3

FDA-approved medications like naltrexone can block those feel-good hormones when you drink – making the experience slightly less "rewarding."

Step 4

When those feel-good hormones are blocked repeatedly over time, most people gradually & naturally experience less interest in alcohol because they're not getting the same rewarding effects from it.

Step 5

As you begin to have less interest in alcohol, this is the time to make lifestyle changes, adjust habits & cultivate new coping strategies in order to shift the behaviors associated with over-drinking.

Step 6

People who use this approach have the option to drink in moderation & with control, or go abstinent in the future with greater ease since the cause of over-drinking has been healed on a neurological level.

How Can Naltrexone & The Sinclair Method Help Me Change My Drinking Habits?

  1. Regained control over alcohol. This means "forgetting" to drink, not being able to finish a drink, or being able to keep alcohol in the house without drinking it.
  2. Cravings for alcohol reduced or eliminated.  This means your mind can feel more "free" as you think about alcohol less often. Many people don't even realize how much they are thinking about alcohol until they go on TSM.
  3. Choice of moderation or abstinence. It's up to you to decide what type of role you want alcohol to play in your life. Many people have a goal to drink moderately, and others quit drinking with greater ease through TSM.

"I support TSM because all throughout my psychiatric residency training, alcohol treatment was very all or none in regards to AA and abstinence or using medications like Antabuse or Campral, with essentially expected poor outcomes. When I learned about TSM, it was a lightbulb moment, and I saw immediate life-changing  responses with my patients. I have been a believer since then, as this has been the only treatment where I have seen consistent and sustained positive results. It is a game-change and a life-saver."
